Special Guest: John Cale

Studio 360

Kurt Andersen and underground rock hero John Cale look at the pervasive cultural influence of Andy Warhol. Plus, Cale performs a few songs live in the studio.

Rock guitarist and classical violist John Cale participated in one of Warhol’s big experiments, The Velvet Underground. Warhol took the difficult, obscure bandmates and made them stars. After the Velvets’ breakup, Cale became an underground rock hero with records like Fear and Paris 1919. In 1990 Cale co-wrote with Lou Reed Songs for Drella — a musical biography of Warhol. Cale’s newest record is BlackAcetate.
