Mourning and anger amid devastation after Beirut explosion; One-third of Afghanistan may have had COVID-19; 75-years since Hiroshima bombing

Many Lebanese are turning toward anger and frustration over corrupt Lebanese officials for the presence of a warehouse full of ammonium nitrate at the center of a massive explosion. And, in Afghanistan, the country’s health minister said an antibody survey revealed almost one-third of the nation may have been infected with the coronavirus. Also, with Hiroshima marking the 75th anniversary of the 1945 nuclear blast on Thursday, the survivors were a diminished presence due to the threat of the coronavirus and their old age.

Shares in Turkish state lender Halkbank surged 8% today after US federal chief prosecutor Geoffrey Berman was forced to step down over the weekend. Also, Wirecard said on Monday that $2.1 billion is missing from its accounts and was likely never there. And, representatives from the US and Russia started nuclear weapons talks today in Vienna.

Bolton's book accuses Trump of widespread misdeeds; Supreme Court blocks Trump from ending DACA; Germany closes meat processing plant after coronavirus outbreak

In a new book, former White House national security adviser John Bolton accuses US President Donald Trump of sweeping misdeeds in order to pursue reelection, including explicitly seeking Chinese President Xi Jinping's help. And, in a 5-4 decision issued this morning, the US Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration's attempt to cancel Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
