Syria's been practically at war with itself for more than a year. U.N. peacekeepers have moved in to try and put a stop to the violence, but so far it persists. But they still have hope. The full 300-strong contingent is expected to be deployed soon.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron told Syria's "criminal regime" that it must face justice "for the blood that is on your hands". He also urged Russia and China to look hard at the suffering in Syria and reconsider their support for the Syrian government.
Officials are concerned the Syrian Army is trying to hide signs of summary executions in the Baba Amr area near Homs after the rebels withdrew and the Syrian Army moved in.
The deadly siege of Homs lasted 27 days. It ended Thursday with rebels in the Syrian city announcing a "tactical" retreat, essentially handing victory to the government, which bombarded rebel-held parts of Homs daily for much of the past month.
In Syria Wednesday, two western journalists joined the thousands of Syrians who have already died in the conflict there. But perhaps more importantly, a Syrian citizen-journalist, who helped publish video from Homs, was also killed in the shelling.
