MARCO WERMAN: If you've soured on Chinese capitalism, how about high-kicking Chinese Marxists? A group of Chinese producers is planning to stage a musical version of Das Kapital. The producers say they hope to show that the thinking of Karl Marx is as relevant in today's economic crisis as it was when Marx published his Communist treatise back in 1867 and they wouldn't mind giving the masses a little something to tap their toes to. The musical will revolve around a group of office workers who discover their boss is exploiting them. The show is still in the development phase. The producers say they hope to debut it next year at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center. By the way, the idea for the musical was apparently inspired by the popularity of a Japanese manga comic book adaptation of Das Kapital published in December.
