At the UN General Assembly on Thursday, members of the 15-country UN Security Council debated whether to more fully integrate the security risks posed by climate change into its work. Climate change is seen as a threat multiplier, with drought, flooding and other events exacerbating conflict. Most countries supported taking steps to consider climate risks in planning for UN peacekeeping missions. China, India and Russia opposed it, saying climate change should remain the purview of UN bodies formed specifically to fight it. The World’s environment correspondent Carolyn Beeler reports.
