Japan’s prime minister to step down

Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced today that he would not stand for re-election. As Professor Gerald Curtis of Columbia University tells host Carol Hills, Suga lost the public’s confidence following mismanagement of Japan’s pandemic response and his unpopular decision to go ahead and host the Olympic Games in Tokyo, but mostly because of his failure to communicate a vision for Japan’s future.
