In the past months, dozens of Chinese feminist social media channels have been abruptly deactivated, triggering anger and fear that women’s rights activists will be systemically denied an online presence. At the same time, support among the general population for feminism and rights for LGBTQ people is growing. But online, trolls are targeting feminists and LGBTQ as threats to China’s security.
