The divestment movement against the South African government helped topple the apartheid regime there in the 1990s. Climate activists are borrowing from the same playbook. For more than a decade, they’ve been pressuring institutions and governments to pull money out of stocks, bonds and businesses that fund the fossil fuel industry.
