First ship passage through Arctic waters in February raises climate alarm

For the first time in memory, a commercial vessel sailed through Arctic sea ice in the dead of winter, navigating Russia's Northern Sea Route, which is normally impassable due to thick sea ice. This passage is the latest sign of how much climate change has affected ice formation in the Arctic.
