The White House is attempting to punish Myanmar’s military for a Feb. 1 coup that ousted elected leaders and returns the country to full dictatorship. President Joe Biden has thrown his support behind a massive civilian uprising across the country and warned the coup’s leaders that “the world is watching.” The US will now freeze some of the country’s assets, denying the money to the regime, though The World’s Patrick Winn says that is unlikely to force a return to democracy.
