Peru’s president avoids impeachment, but his leadership is fragile

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra avoided impeachment Friday, after the country’s congress debated for 10 hours whether accusations of a corruption cover-up merited his removal from office. The World’s Jorge Valencia reports that even though Vizcarra wasn’t removed from office, the episode will hamper his ability to respond to the health and economic devastation brought to Peru by the coronavirus pandemic.
