It was five years ago today that German Chancellor Angela Merkel made her famous statement “wir schaffen das” or "we can do this." Critics say it was her great mistake. This year her coalition voted against taking in even 5,000 vulnerable refugees stranded in Greek camps. A poll of Germans last year said they believe they had enough refugees.
