Science journalist Debora Mackenzie is the author of “COVID-19: The pandemic that never should have happened and how to stop the next one.” A review in the medical journal, Lancet, called the book “an authoritative picture of the pandemic,” its origin and character, despite the speed at which the book came out. Mackenzie has been covering infectious diseases for more than three decades for The New Scientist. Host Marco Werman speaks with Mackenzie about the pandemic and what’s critical to prevent the next one.
