Activists mark 30-year anniversary of Oka Crisis in Canada

The World

This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of an important moment for Indigenous people in Canada. In 1990, the Mohawk Nation in Quebec took action to block the expansion of a golf course into land that had been a traditional burial ground. The World’s Carol Hills speaks to Mohawk artist and activist Ellen Gabriel about her memories of July 11, 1990, and about how the struggle for Mohawk traditional land rights continues today.
