Switchboard, the UK’s leading LGBT+ helpline, has seen a 20% increase in calls during the COVID-19 pandemic. Switchboard co-chair Natasha Walker said more people are reaching out for support in dealing with increased anxiety. In addition to the uncertainty the pandemic brings to people’s lives, a rising unemployment rate, and cancelled in-person school, many queer people around the world have been forced to move into hostile living situations. And, with a fear of being heard on the phone, some people are finding it difficult to connect with others for support. The World’s Bianca Hillier reports.
