The coronavirus pandemic has an unofficial film in Spain

The World

The Platform is a dystopian, cerebral horror thriller that centers on themes of isolation and scarcity. And, initially, it was not very popular. When it was first released in Spain in November, it had a modest showing. Netflix bought the distribution rights, posted the film on March 20, and it quickly became the most popular film on Netflix in Spain and other countries. Reporter Jorge Valencia spoke with director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia about how it feels to be so successful in such a bad moment, and how he has stayed busy during mandatory lockdown in his hometown of Bilbao.
