On Jan. 31, 1990, the former Soviet Union said yes to one of the most potent symbols of American capitalism — McDonald’s. The company opened its first franchise in Moscow just a year before the USSR’s collapse. McDonald’s planned to mark Friday’s anniversary by selling hamburgers at Soviet-era prices. But the Kremlin advised to scrap that plan over fears of the coronavirus outbreak. Host Carol Hills speaks with reporter Charles Maynes in Moscow.
