Tortoise hero returns home

The World

An 100-year-old tortoise is returning home to the Galápagos Islands after taking part in a successful breeding program which brought the giant tortoise species back from the brink. The program’s success is largely attributed to Diego’s voracious libido. There are an estimated 1,800 tortoises now on the Galápagos — 40% of the population are estimated to be Diego’s progeny.
