Turns out being distracted is nothing new. In the Middle Ages, monks weren't constantly checking their smartphones but they often glanced at the clock, which at the time was the sun. University of Georgia professor Jamie Kreiner has studied the monks' struggle with distractions, and finds that their avoidance strategies were curiously similar to those used by today's distracted masses.
