Navy bases and extreme weather
As Hurricane Michael barreled toward the Florida panhandle, military bases in the region were evacuated and closed. Fighter jets from Tyndall Air Force Base flew to Ohio earlier this week to wait out the storm. Workers at Tyndall were also evacuated. Thousands of other Air Force and Navy personnel at neighboring military installations were told to stay home on Wednesday as their bases remained closed. These are examples of how vulnerable US military bases are to extreme weather. As sea levels rise and hurricanes are expected to grow more intense, military installations will grow even more vulnerable. We hear more from The World's Carolyn Beeler.
