In her new book, historian Ana Raquel Minian writes that, at times in the United States, some Mexican migrants created "constructed 'movement maps' that helped them to circumvent streets that they new to be police by [immigration] officials." Minian recreated one of the mental maps based on her interviews with migrants who lived in San Francisco in the 1970s.
