Moderna, NIH coronavirus vaccine study underway; Vietnam back on high alert over coronavirus; UK blindsides travelers from Spain

The world’s biggest vaccine study for the coronavirus got underway today in the US. And, Vietnam is back on high alert after the first locally transmitted case in three months was detected in the central city of Da Nang, forcing the evacuation of 80,000 tourists. Also, UK health authorities said all travelers to the UK from Spain will now have to quarantine themselves for 14 days, blindsiding many travelers from Britain who are on vacation in Spain

China orders US to close its Chengdu consulate; Turkey purging the Gülenists; Mexico City's public square storytelling

China has followed through on its promises of retaliation toward the US. Beijing on Friday ordered the US to close its consulate in Chengdu. And, the Gülenists, dubbed by Turkey as FETO, the Fethullahist Terror Organization, are being purged on a massive scale. Also, as the coronavirus lockdown forced people indoors, Percibald García, an architect, grabbed a microphone and portable speaker and began doing readings of children’s stories in an empty public square in Mexico City.

India sees record spike in coronavirus cases; Outrage in Turkey over femicide; Fugitive Chinese researcher hiding in consulate

India reported a record jump of more than 45,000 coronavirus infections Wednesday. And, the brutal murder of Pınar Gültekin, a 27-year-old woman by her former boyfriend, has sparked outrage and protests in Turkey. Also, the FBI believes that a fugitive Chinese researcher, Juan Tang, has been hiding in the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco for a month.
