As part of our regular series discussing COVID-19, The World's Elana Gordon moderated a conversation with Nancy Krieger from Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Krieger recently co-authored an analysis confirming the extent of such disparities.

Court rules Shamima Begum can return to Britain for appeal; Russian hackers accused of trying to steal COVID-19 vaccine research; Privacy Shield ruled invalid

A British appeal court ruled today that Shamima Begum, who in 2015 went to Syria to join ISIS, can return to the United Kingdom to challenge the government's removal of her British citizenship. And, officials from the US, Britain and Canada said today that Russian hackers are trying to steal COVID-19 vaccine research. Also, Europe's highest court has ruled that the so-called Privacy Shield trans-Atlantic data transfer deal is invalid.

Britain bans Huawei from 5G network; US rejects China's claims in most of the South China Sea; Judge to hear university case over ICE decision

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered Huawei equipment purged from Britain's 5G network by 2027. And, a judge is scheduled to hear arguments today involving over 200 universities and 17 states seeking to temporarily block the Trump administration from enforcing new regulations for international students. Also, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said yesterday that the US rejects China's claims in most of the South China Sea.

China announces sanctions targeting Rubio, Cruz; Polish President Andrzej Duda reelected; Remembering Zindzi Mandela

China announced retaliatory sanctions on Monday against the United States for “interfering in China’s internal affairs.” And, Polish President Andrzej Duda has won another term in office after an election runoff held on Sunday. Also, Zindzi Mandela, daughter of former South African president and anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela, has died.
