Nov. 9, 2019 marks the 30th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall. Those who tried to escape East Germany for the freedoms of the West used all sorts of methods — some swam, some biked, some tunneled — and many were caught and jailed. But, now, 30 years later, they say they don't regret their efforts.
The spooky, interactive experience uses archival audio and video, as well as original art, to trace different periods in the history of Puerto Rico, from the 16th-century Spanish colonization through the United States takeover in 1898 and, finally, Hurricane Maria.
It was the guillotine’s plummeting blade that took off head after head with just a bit of cleaning and sharpening in between, answering the need of the moment. Thus it came to symbolize state terrorism but also swift and equal justice.
