Job Opportunities:

Digital Editor,

Position Overview:  The Digital Editor works at WGBH for PRI’s The World on a multimedia team producing daily radio and online features reaching three million people a week. The editor is part of a nine-person digital group managing the newly re-launched and fast-growing as a place where people discover and engage with global news, trends, issues and cultures. 

The editor must be an accomplished digital storyteller, experienced in selecting, shaping, writing, editing and preparing multimedia to create powerful online features and blogs. The editor will originate stories, write stories from audio interviews and edit stories with staff and freelance journalists for PRI’s The World and other PRI public radio programs. The editorial team gauges success against aggressive goals for extending the digital audience and building communities of highly engaged users.

Department Overview:  The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by WGBH, the BBC World Service, and Public Radio International (PRI). The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically for an American audience. The World’s companion website,, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content.

Education and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in Journalism, or equivalent, is preferred. 

Minimum of 2 years of experience in journalism, specifically experience with news story research and fact-checking, news reporting, news judgment for online audience and knowledge of international news and recent history. 

Minimum of 2 years of experience with online media, specifically with online story selection, online writing and editing, audio and video editing and encoding.

Knowledge of HTML and some CSS, and experience working within a major CMS. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, highly organized and self-directed and able to handle multiple projects and meet short deadlines. 

Additional experience preferred; data journalism, magazine-style feature writing, creation of simple graphics for stories and strong social media presence.
