Thanksgiving is a day many Americans share with their family and dearest friends, but holidays like this one can also be a time of painful loneliness. Psychologists say some people are lonely because they're physically isolated from others. But they say many more are lonely even though they're surrounded by friends and family. John Cacioppo has studied loneliness. He is founder and director of the University of Chicago's Center for Cognitive and Social Neuroscience. Cacioppo says loneliness is increasingly prevalent in American society, compared with elsewhere in the world.
