The Iraqi government is calling on civilians to evacuate parts of the Sadr City slum in Baghdad. This is raising fears of a major escalation in fighting between US and Iraqi troops and Shiite militants loyal to radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. He describes a country that is struggling to address the widespread death and destruction caused by a cyclone this weekend. A US diplomat in Burma today said the death toll from the disaster could top 100,000.
