The independent bookstore is becoming a thing of the past in the United States...but not so in Britain. Though 72 bookstores shut down there last year, 81 new ones have opened up. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with London bookstore owner Matthew Crockatt. He thinks a real bookstore offers advantages over Internet competitors.

Indonesia's former dictator Suharto is still in critical condition after coming close to dying recently. The 85-year-old Suharto ruled the country for more than three decades. He was responsible for many human rights abuses. Now Indonesians are debating whether to forgive a feeble old man...or force him to face his past. The World's Orlando de Guzman reports.

China's stock market closed today at its lowest level since July. Analysts say it's the fallout from the US subprime mortgage crisis. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Gordon Chang, author of "The Coming Collapse of China." He says a financial slowdown in the US could spell political trouble for the government of China.

The World's Katy Clark has the latest on how stock markets around the world are reacting to US financial troubles. One casualty in the current turmoil may be the notion that what happens on Wall Street doesn't affect the rest of the world much. The past couple of days have shown plenty of evidence to the contrary. Today, European markets rebounded after the US Federal Reserve Bank cut interest rates.
