A death suspected to have been caused by the Ebola virus was reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday. Ebola is just one example of a zoonotic virus -- one that can jump from animals to humans. The phenomenon of animal to human disease transmission is the subject of an article in the October issue of National Geographic Magazine. Marco Werman talks with science journalist David Quammen, who wrote the piece.

Buddhist monks are calling for the end of military rule in Burma. The monks announced that they will continue their peaceful protests until, as they put it, the military dictatorship is wiped from the land. The BBC's South-East Asia correspondent Andrew Harding has just returned from an undercover trip to Burma, and he sent us this report.
