Thursday marks the one-year anniversay of the start of Israel's war with Hezbollah. The Israeli government's handling of the war created a political crisis. But a year later, Israel is stronger economically and politically. Matt Gutman has this report.

A top Al-Qaeda leader has posted an online message addressed to Queen Elizabeth II and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. It concerns the recent knighthood of British author Salman Rushdie. The knighthood sparked objection in a number of Muslim countries and organizations because of Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses. Anchor Lisa Mullins has details.

A standoff between Pakistan's army and Islamic militants at the Red Mosque in Islamabad ended in bloodshed today. Among those killed was the leader of the mosque, Abdul Rashid Ghazi. The conflict reflects wider tensions between in Pakistan between Islamists and the pro-Western government of Pervez Musharraf. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Hassan Abbas, a former police chief in Pakistan, and Vali Nasr, an expert on political Islam.

The World's Jason Margolis reports on the debate in Washington over funding the war in Iraq. Democrats are proposing several amendments to phase down the war. And President Bush is facing increased pressure from Senators within his own party.
