The European Union pledged nearly $80 million dollars today in new assistance for Haiti. That came at an international donors conference in Madrid aimed at helping the the struggling nation. The United States, the EU and others have already allocated hundreds of millions of dollars for Haiti as it tries to emerge from decades of violence, corruption and poverty.
