The demand is in response to the suicides of three detainees there last Saturday. The New York-based organization says independent inspectors are needed to confirm the causes of death of the three men as well as assess the health of the other prisoners.

The American ambassador in South Korea said a missile test by the North would be viewed as a very serious matter by Washington and could lead to US countermeasures.
