For today's Geo Quiz, we're looking for a cluster of islands with a great view of space.
This archipelago belongs to Spain. It's made up of seven volcanic islands that lie in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco and the Western Sahara. Columbus and other 15th/16th century explorers sailed this way on their trans-Atlantic voyages, stopping on the islands to replenish supplies and repair sails.
Now explorers of another sort have set up a powerful mirror telescope on one of these islands. It's perched atop a mountain called the Roque de los Muchachos, and it will peer deep into the universe.
For tonight's launch, astronomers are pointing the telescope at the brightest star in the night sky. Polaris, the North Star, is the same star sailors used to navigate their way across the Atlantic in search of the new world.
So can you name these Atlantic islands?
