We've heard a lot today about President Obama's speech to the Muslim world. It was a wide-ranging address.

But we're going to focus on just one thought from the speech for today's Geo Quiz. And listen closely cause the answer is coming right up.

The Mother Mosque Of America: http://www.mothermosque.orgThe Mother Mosque Of America: http://www.mothermosque.org

Here's President Obama today -- speaking about Islam in America.

"Freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one's religion. That is why there is a mosque in every state in our union and over 1,200 mosques within our borders."

Well, it would be too much to ask you to locate all 1200 mosques in the US. So we're going to narrow it down to just one...

The Tiananmen protests -- and the massacred that followed -- were not the only tumultuous events of 1989.

The Berlin Wall fell that year too. 1989 was a time of revolution in eastern Europe.

In the years that followed, the Soviet Union would collapse -- and many Soviet republics declared their independence.

Our Geo Quiz today sends us off in search of ONE of those former Soviet Republics.

The country we're looking is now engaging in an interesting debate about the past.

Some lawmakers in parliament are proposing the country clear its map of geographic names related to the Soviet era.

They see it as part of a "national revival."

Even an expert like journalist Rostoslav Khotin admits it can be a bit confusing trying to keep up with the times:

"So for instance currently the city of Dnepropetrovsk will be called either Sicheslav or even Kodaky as it used to be called at the beginning pre- Russian empire you know old Cossack name mid 17th century; then the city of Kirovograd will be called Yelisavetgrad as it was called in 19th century."

We''ll hear more about the proposed transformation.

First we want you to name the East European country that's considering revising its maps.

We interrupt our program now ... for another important ... Geo Quiz.

This is NOT the usual jingle that accompanies the Geo Quiz. That's for sure!

Instead it's an 18th century cantata by Johann Sebastien Bach... featuring a long forgotten instrument.

Picture an 8-foot long trumpet that some say sounds like a garden hose.

The LituusThe Lituus

See more photos

The Lituus as it's called fell out of use about 300 years ago. From the sound of this redesigned roman tuba -- it may not yet be ready for prime time.

In any case we're looking for the name of a city in the Central Lowlands of Scotland.

Its where graduate students teamed up with early music scholars and used high tech computer modeling to recreate the long lost lituus.

The city is located along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea. It's nicknamed "Old Smokey" for all the coal smoke that used to swirl up out of its chimneys.

The answer is coming up...

Look up into the sky for today's Geo Quiz. The American city we're looking for today has a connection to a celestial phenomenon.

It's a kind of cloud formation that doesn't yet have an official name.

It resembles the turbulent surface of the ocean -- as seen from below.

This kind of cloud formation was first identified by sky gazers in this Midwestern US city.

Now, some cloud aficionados are petitioning the UN's "World Meteorological Organization" for official recognition. If their petition is successful -- the second largest city in the state of Iowa could have a new claim to fame.

That's besides straddling the Cedar River, and being known as the "city of five seasons."

Name the city -- we'll name the clouds -- when we come back with the answer in a few minutes.

We're in pursuit of some of the world's best cyclists for today's Geo Quiz.

The "Giro d'Italia" is celebrating its 100th anniversary as one of Europe's biggest cycling races.

Top-notch cyclists, including Lance Armstrong, have been chasing each other around Italy for three weeks now.

This was Day 19 of the Giro -- a grueling 102-mile-long stage -- ending with a steep climb to the top of a mountain near Naples.

And -- you guessed it -- we're looking for the name of that mountain. It's actually a volcano. Some 2,000 year ago - it erupted so violently it buried the nearby city of Pompeii.

Today it's where Italian cycling fans have come to cheer on their favorites.

OK -- take 5...to come up with the name of this volcano.

Sorry to rush you -- we meant 5 seconds...

The question for today's Geo Quiz is not "where?" -- but rather "what?"

As in -- What do the following 3 places have in common?

We'll start down under with "The Great Sandy". This coastal region of Australia includes one of the world's largest sand islands.

Next we have Mount Myohyang in North Korea. It's considered a sacred mountain. All sorts of medicinal plants grow on it -- but it's also known for its spectacular rock formations and cliffs.

And finally, there's Lagunas de Montebello, near the border between Mexico and Guatemala.

More than 50 crystal-clear lagoons are scattered here among the tropical forests and organic coffee plantations.

So, there you have it...three places, extraordinary in their own right...but somehow connected.

If you're perplexed -- don't worry -- we'll tell you how these three geographic gems are connected here...

Our Geo Quiz takes us to the shores of the Mediterranean. We're looking for a big city in Spain.

In fact, it's the country's second biggest. This city also doubles as the capital of the Catalunya region.

If that doesn't give it away... try these clues:

Right now, this city is hosting a conference of the World Association of Newspapers. And the local soccer team is one of the finalists in a BIG European match today.

Don't worry, we won't give away the score.

But we WILL answer our Geo Quiz...

Strong winds and heavy rains are forecast for today's Geo Quiz:

The Atlantic hurricane season gets underway next week.

Forecasters at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration predict a so-called "normal" season.

That could mean as many as 9 hurricanes.

Elsewhere in the world -- though -- big storms go by other names.

The one that hit India and Bangladesh this week was a cyclone... named Aila.

More than a hundred people died because of the storm.

Disaster response teams in both countries are rushing to help thousands of people left stranded and homeless by the storm surge.

Our question to you is ... where did this cyclone gather its strength?

We're looking for the name of the body of water just south of the areas where cyclone Aila came ashore.

We'll reveal the answer right after today's Global hit.

For today's Geo Quiz --- we're venturing onto hallowed ground.

We're after the name of some famous World War I battlefields. They're located in the historic region of Flanders nestled among Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died there during the grueling battles of WWI. Today there are military cemeteries, cornfields, and fields of wild poppies scattered throughout these battlefields. The red poppies appear in a famous poem about this place, a place where: " the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row". Legend has it the poem was inspired by seeing blood red poppies blooming in the same fields where so many soldiers died.

What's the setting for this famous World War One poem ?

Time to rendezvous with our Geo Quiz.

A Rendez Vous can mean a prearranged meeting, one that's off the radar... if you know what I mean.

Its also the name of a boulangerie which is a French bakery. So were looking for a bakery named Le Rendez Vous and it's located in a state we want you to name.

Locals turn up everyday to buy their baguettes, almond croissants, and apple tarts all prepared in the French style.

There's a Left Bank feel to the place.

But here's the twist: it's nowhere near Paris or the Seine. It's pretty close to the Connecticut River and its neighbors include some Canadian paper mills. This French boulangerie is within sight of the White Mountains.

So name the state that's home to these crusty loaves.
