We're looking for a far-flung overseas territory of France for our quiz today.
It's an island in the Indian Ocean that often finds itself right in the track of fierce ocean storms. Cyclones in the Indian Ocean pack the same strong winds and flooding rains as hurricanes do in the Atlantic. The rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere.
Last month one of these clockwise spinning cyclones named Gamede came near our island:
Meteorologist Jeff Masters tracked it:
“It was category 3 cyclone and it had top winds of 125 miles per hour, but it did not hit the island its rainbands stayed over the island for several days dumped a huge amount of rainfall on the island.â€
Rain, rain and more rain came. Enough to set a record. We'll tell you how much exactly when we reveal the answer.
For now, get cracking on locating this French island whose closest neighbor is the island of Mauritius... 125 miles away...
