LISA MULLINS: Just a few weeks ago, the news out of Mexico was all about swine flu. At the height of the scare, life in some parts of Mexico had almost ground to a halt. One example – cruise ships stopped making port calls in places such as Cozumel, the resort island near Cancun. But now the cruise ship crowd is starting to come back. Yesterday, a Royal Caribbean vessel docked in Cozumel. It was the first cruise ship to stop there in more than a month – which was great news for those who make a living catering to tourists. People like this man.

HECTOR ZAPATA: Hi, everybody. My name is Hector – Hector Zapata. I'm from Cozumel island and owner of one beach club on the island, Cozumel island, which is one of the most important places where cruise ships arrive. Actually, the cruise ship industry is the biggest thing that we do on the island. Everybody survive through the cruise ship industry. And we have tours in Playa Uvas, the most important one is the kayak, and we kayak all around the reef. We are pretty far away from the places that the flu was coming out. But we have the worst month, past month, trying to survive. It was a huge impact. Some of the hotels closed, and a lot of people get fired because companies couldn't survive at all. Yesterday, things got – the first cruise lines arrived and we breathed. We really breathed. Today, we don't have a cruise ship, but I can tell you this. You go on the street, and you can see Cozumel alive. People is on the streets and we will be okay. But we suffer a lot.

MULLINS: That is Hector Zapata, who is one of the owners of Plays Uvas. That is a beach club in Cozumel that caters to cruise ship tourists.
