After twenty-six years of violence, the Sri Lankan government has announced that the supreme commander of the Tamil Tiger rebels, Velupillai Prabhakaran, has been killed. There's been no independent confirmation of Prabhakaran's death, but the news, sent to cell phones across Sri Lanka by the government, sparked celebrations on the streets of the capital Colombo.
