A Spanish island

June 19, 2008 | permalink |

The answer now to today's Geo Quiz is the Spanish island of Mallorca. The island's capital Palma inspired the name of the tiny British airline, Palmair.

MallorcaMallorca

“It's got nothing to do with Palm trees, it's Palma Mallorca that's where the name comes from.”

That's managing director David Skillicorn. His fleet consists of one Boeing 737.

That's it.

But the mini airline has just been named one of the world's 4 best.

A European consumer group says when it comes to customer satisfaction; Palmair beats the wings off Virgin Atlantic and British Airways.

“What's our secret? You know if I really knew what it was I could bottle it and sell it, but the reality is the only thing I've got over everybody else I haven't got shiny airplanes or the lowest fares, but what I have got because were small I'm able to give a level of service that is significantly higher than anyone else could possible give.”

Maybe it's the little touches.... Like flight attendants who bring in fresh flowers every day. Or maybe it's taking seriously the idea that small is beautiful.

Even Skillicorn was surprised with the high rating...after all, Palmair doesn't offer things like onboard massage:

“We offer free tea and coffee, that's what I'm talking about here, that makes it even more astonishing.”

Palmair.....flies weekly to Mallorca, the answer to our Geo Quiz.
