We were looking for a city in Morocco that used to be known as a hideout for spies and smugglers.
The answer is Tangier.

Back in the 1950's and 60's, Tangier was an exotic place that attracted American artists such as Jack Kerouak and Tenneesee Williams.
The city then went through a long period of decline, famous for its seediness.
Now it's experiencing a re-birth of sorts.
