Our Global Hit today kicks off with a song about a barber.
The song is called Shirin,
It's by 25-year-old Swedish musician Jens Lekman.
He wrote the tune about his own barber -- a woman named Shirin.
Lekman clearly believes that a haircut is an intimate moment between two people.
A lot of Lekman's songs find importance in the mundane.
Lekman's new CD is called "Night Falls Over Kortedala."
That's the name of Lekman's neighborhood in Gothenburg, Sweden.
He refers to Kortedala as a suburban hell.
At nine everyone is in bed and all the lights are out.
Maybe that's why Jens Lekman is on a musical search for exciting and entertaining life after dark.
But it doesn't really explain why Lekman's music sounds like a pastiche of bits of old AM radio, from Bread to the Beatles to the Fifth Dimension.
