Today's Global Hit features an artist who sought inspiration inside a glass box. The artist is a 25-year-old violinist from Spain. And the glass box was set up on a public street in the Spanish capital, Madrid. The World's Gerry Hadden sent us this report.

In her week behind glass Patricia Arguelles has been composing her latest work under the gaze of thousands of passers-by. Arguelles calls it an exchange between musician and a sea of nameless faces.

just before entering her see-through studio last week Arguelles told a crowd she wanted to stage this artistic experiment in Madrid, because of its cultural importance.

Arguelles is hoping to tap the tension of her odd and intimate circumstances to write something good. Passers by, such as this German tourist, seemed to enjoy the novelty.

ANONYMOUS WOMAN: It's a new experience. I've never seen something like this before. I think it's interesting.

I'm working on the new piece, Arguelles told the curious through the glass at mid-week. She said he composition will combine voice and violin.

But as the week went on pressure from spectators and the media began to take its toll on the 26 year old.

I'm tired today, she told the public after rising from bed one morning. She said it was getting harder to compose but that the music was coming along.

Arguelles is hardly a household name in Spain or in Berlin where she lives. That's partly why she pulled this stunt, she admits. But it's also in keeping with her penchant for experimental music. In her short career she has played with some relatively better known musicians, such as British singer songwriter Matt Elliott.

Today, Arguelles' fiddler-in-a-bubble experiment ended. The violinist hasn't said whether her experimental composition will appear on a CD. But she does plan to go on the road for a normal performance soon. Arguelles will be appearing on stage with Matt Elliott in southern Italy on November 29th.
