We're searching for a small island nation, just off the eastern coast of Africa. It lies in the Indian Ocean, between the northern end of Mozambique and northern Madagascar. The country is made up of several islands.
Arabic and French are spoken there - the latter a legacy from the islands' days as a colony of France. Since declaring independence from France in 1975, the island nation has had a rocky history. There have been more than 20 military coups or attempted coups.
A few of them involved a French mercenary who passed away this weekend at the age of 78. Bob Denard made his reputation staging coups and battling communism throughout Africa.
