Finally in today's Global Hit, we introduce you to a 22-year-old French jazz bassist. His name is Hadrien Feraud.

Some of his jazz elders have appointed him as the "new Jaco Pastorious." So --first -- a little background on that lofty title. That's what Pastorius sounded like.

He was an acclaimed American bass player who died 20 years ago. But he's still said to influence jazz bassists in much the same way that Charlie Parker influenced generations of saxophone players.

Now back to Hadrien Feraud. The young French bassist has a new CD out. He says Jaco Pastorious was the reason he picked up the bass. Feraud was just 12 when he heard his first Pastorius album. But Feraud says there's more to his sound than Jaco Pastorius.

FERAUD: “My main influence for the bass is Jaco, yes of course. But, I was also attracted to movie soundtracks and the way of composing like Debussy and Ravel.
Jaco made the bass rise. People say "the new Jaco Pastrious" and I think that's a little bit too much because Jaco created something. And I try to find my way now, so the story is just starting."
