As an engineer for The World Ray provides two functions: Some days he's assigned to mix (or "drive" as we call it) the live national broadcast of the news program. This means that he mixes all the host announcements, news stories and musical program elements under the guidance of the director. On other days he works with Reporters and Producers to mix and polish their pre-produced program elements in the digital production room called "Sadie."
Ray is a longtime engineer for WGBH Radio. When not specifically assigned to The World, he records Classical, Jazz, Folk and Opera music performances for broadcast. Ray has also been an Executive Producer in Commercial Radio and has worked as an engineer at KQED FM in San Francisco.
Ray says, "I believe that at The World I get to work with some of the best people in broadcasting. I enjoy the relationships that we have developed and the teamwork that it takes to produce a daily national world news program."
In his off time, Ray is also a devoted husband, father and avid private pilot.
