Latino voters support Democrat Barack Obama over Republican John McCain by 66% to 23% according to the latest survey by the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, D.C. The World's Julia Kumari Drapkin talks to the Pew Hispanic Center's Mark Hugo Lopez about how Latinos may be voting this November
A Palestinian Reflection on Obama's Tour of the Middle East July 25, 2008permalink
There's been no shortage of reaction to Barack Obama's world tour this week. For a specific take on one part of the Senator's trip, and on the presidential election in general, The World's Matthew Bell spoke with Mustafa Barghouthi this morning. Barghouthi is a member of the Palestinian parliament and he's a former information minister for the Palestinian government.
Here's a video of Barack Obama's press conference in Sderot, Isreal where he said, "I bring to Sderot an unshakable commitment to Israel's security."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice repeated demands today that Pakistan take stronger action to rein in militants on its border with Afghanistan. The Taliban appear to be growing in strength. The World's Jeb Sharp takes a look at policy options for Afghanistan.
Anchor Marco Werman speaks with Thomas Schweich, a former US anti-narcotics official. Schweich says a mixture of Western obstruction and Afghan corruption has allowed the Taliban to secure support and funding from Afghanistan's growing poppy trade.

A year after the Lebanese army destroyed a Palestinian refugee camp to chase out Islamic militants, people are still living in makeshift shelters. The World Aaron Schachter has an update from the Nahr el Bared camp in northern Lebanon.

A very full program this week. First, we look at the International Olympic Committee's test for EPO, a performance-enhancing drug. The test for EPO may not be very effective. Also, a card used for travel on the London Underground appears vulnerable to hacking and cloning. Then, we hear about plans to build giant solar farms in the Sahara desert, and also how Finns are using a wiki to convert gas-powered cars to electric vehicles. And we end with a look at efforts to save Bletchley Park, sight of some of the most important code-breaking work during World War II.

Election officials have been trying for 60 years to find a better way to get ballots to overseas voters. This time around, they're hoping they've made some improvements. The World's Jason Margolis reports.
