Colombia says it's rescued the French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt is free. Betancourt is the highest-profile hostage held for years by the leftist FARC rebels of Colombia. And today -- the Colombian military announced it had rescued her -- along with 14 other hostages held by the FARC. Marco Werman talks with Alvaro Sierra is an editor for El Tiempo -- a daily newspaper in Bogota about the rescue.

Anchor Marco Werman speaks with the BBC's Sarah Rainsford in Ankara about the arrest of two prominent retired generals in Turkey yesterday. They're among a group of people that Turkish police officials say have been plotting a coup to overthrow the government. The arrests came at the same time as the country's chief prosecutor called for Turkey's ruling party to be disbanded.

Turkey's economy is booming. But as The World's Aaron Schachter it doesn't seem to be trickling down to the average citizen.

Afghanistan is home to some archaeological wonders, but many fear that they're falling victim to neglect. In the Western Afghan city of Herat, advocates are racing to get the city's ancient center protected as world heritage site, while there's still something left to protect.
