The appeal is a test of a year-old rule requiring that the Supreme Court review each death penalty case before execution to ensure that there was adequate evidence to support the conviction.

The World's Jeb Sharp reports on a new report on Darfur released today by the group Human Rights Watch. The report says sexual violence is rife in Darfur, carried out by Sudanese soldiers, militiamen and rebel fighters.
