The International Red Cross says the impact of violence on civilians in Afghanistan is worse now than it was a year ago. Red Cross officials say there are more roadside bombs and suicide bombings by Taliban and al Qaeda fighters. But the Red Cross also says US and NATO forces are not doing enough to protect civilians either, especially when it comes to aerial bombardments. The World's Matthew Bell reports.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai survived an apparent assassination attempt on Sunday. A group of suspects was detained, but Karzai later ordered them released. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Washington Post reporter Pam Constable, about the cultural reasons for Karzai's release order.
