French government voted to end the emergency powers (1:20)

The French government today officially voted to end the emergency it declared last year to stop suburban rioting. The emergency was declared in November, when France was in the middle of the rioting crisis. The World's Marco Werman is in suburban Paris.

Thirteen miners trapped (5:05)

Rescue teams have been working at the Sago coal mine in West Virginia. Thirteen miners were trapped there yesterday after an underground explosion. This kind of incident is familiar to mining communities throughout the world. Brian Robinson is a mines rescue consultant in Wales. He works with rescue teams across the UK and Europe.

There's a very important election coming up in the Middle East. It's in the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank. The vote is seen as a key test of the Bush Administration's goal of expanding democracy in the region. The World's Aaron Schachter reports from the Gaza Strip.

President Bush says reducing US troops in Iraq later this year may be possible. Mister Bush is eager to show progress in Iraq on a day that saw 50 people die in insurgent attacks. The World's Matthew Bell has the latest.


Convoy of oil tankers under attack interview (4:15)

A convoy of oil tankers came under attack north of Baghdad today. The attack comes at a critical time for Iraq's oil industry. Gasoline is in short supply in the country. Host Lisa Mullins speaks with Dethar al-Khashab, general manager of an oil refinery in Baghdad, about the state of Iraq's oil industry and the dangers he personally faces.

Korean community in Japan (6:05)

The Japanese capital of Tokyo has a significant Korean community. The community's roots are in Japan's occupation of the Korean peninsula in the early part of the 20th century. It's hardly surprising that Koreans in Tokyo have generally failed to assimilate smoothly into Japanese society. The World's Mary Kay Magistad reports.
