The record says that American interrogators frequently used the faith of Muslim detainees to abuse them. Now some Christian believers are speaking out about it.

After 12 years in the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, six former inmates are now residents of Uruguay. The country’s president, José Mujica, hasn’t just allowed them in, either — he’s rolling out a red carpet for them.

Moazzam Begg, a former prisoner at Guantanamo Bay prison, says he offered to help negotiate the release of British hostage Alan Henning. Instead, the British Foreign Office ignored him for months.

Images of Cuba are usually beautiful: bright pastel colors, warm tropical weather and the bright blue hue of the ocean. But prisoners at Guantanamo can’t see any of that, even though it’s right outside. Photographer Debi Cornwall went to the prison to capture those contradictions on film.
